Actually, that's pretty normal in veterinary/animal production. My husband works in swine production and he says if you want to really to see something, go to a boar stud- an artifical insemination lab for swine. Do you know how they capture wild animals to expand the gene pool or breed animals in captivity (i.e., zoos)? Makes you a bit more appreciative of the process when you order a steak or a chop... Posted by: Rae at March 8, 2004 08:00 PMOne of my most vivid memories of hanging out with one of my buddies on his ranch was watching the vet preg test when I was about 8 years old. There were the heifers, all lined up in a nice row, and the doc slipped on a shoulder-length plastic glove. I wondered why he was putting on a glove that big, but I didn't have to wonder for too long. I wish I could adequately describe the "squishing" sound, as plastic glove met bovine fundament. There was the doc, up to is armpit in cow, with a studious look on his face, then he would pronounce "open" if the heifer wasn't pregnant. Then, he was on to the next victim. I also got the giggles thinking of this episode when the Spousal Unit was pregnant with the Eldest child, but I'd probably better not go into that. Posted by: mtpolitics at March 9, 2004 10:30 AMI am so completely at a loss for how to respond to this. Posted by: zombyboy at March 9, 2004 10:35 AMThat might be for the best. Posted by: mtpolitics at March 9, 2004 10:41 AMYeah, I'm thinking so... Posted by: zombyboy at March 9, 2004 10:59 AMPost a comment
