Free Tunes for Zomby

My soda drinking habits have changed. Whenever I've actually wanted a Sprite, I've bought a Sierra Mist. After getting off to a rather ugly start in Pepsi's music give away with four straight losing caps, the last three drinks I've bought have all been winners. I finally used the numbers and got myself some free music.

Eric Clapton's "When You Got a Good Friend"
This song is from the four-song EP available only on Apple's Music Store. Clapton is putting out a CD of covers of Robert Johnson's songs entitled Me and Mr. Johnson and using this EP to gain a little momentum. Lively, fun blues that really plays to Clapton's strengths.

Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah (Live)
Gorgeous song in an extra-freakin' long live format.

Natalie Merchant's "San Andreas Fault"
I have a secret: I adore Merchant's voice. It's an absolutely beautiful thing.

It's a more quiet set of music than I might normally go for, but that was sort of the point: download some things that I might not normally listen buy.

Thank you, Pepsi. I appreciate the songs.

Natalie is a jewel. I can listen to her for days on end, and I generally don't care for female vocalists, only because their song choices tend to the maudlin.

I've enjoyed Natalie's voice since 87's In My Tribe, which I thought was a simply outstanding album. Of course, being but 16 at the time, not many of my friends shared that opinion. Oh well.

You've found out my secret. I'm a closet merchant fan, although I prefer her doing up-tempo material.

Wow. I never knew there were so many closet Merchant fans. I suddenly don't feel so all alone...

You have to be a closet fan because her politics are so loony left.

BTW, I'm up to 5 free songs. I'm working on getting an album's worth. I have students who don't have iTunes helping me.
