iTunes Recommendation for the Day (IV)

For about five minutes, Helmet really grabbed my attention. Then I promptly forgot about them.

This morning, when checking my RSS aggregator, the iTunes thread showed that the Music Store just added Unsung: The Best of Helmet 1991 - 1997. The memories of that hard driving beat and those biting lyrics came rushing back and I'd found my recommendation for the day.

My coworkers are grateful for the wonders of headphones. They just don't know it.

Best of Helmet? I used to own the album with Unsung (wasn't it self-titled?) and it was OK at best. Unsung was, and still is, a great song. I'm just not sure how they could make a "best of" album. Are you sure it isn't a "best of" single?

That's exactly why they only held my attention for about five minutes.

Unsung was the only song that I remembered on the CD. And I won't be buying any of the others.

They put out a Screaming Trees best of album a while back. I kind of giggled about that. As much as I love them, it cracked me up that there would be thousands of people looking at the cover and saying, "Didn't they do that song on the Singles soundtrack?"

Both Meantime and Betty have some good songs on them - they also have some right crap on them too. I have both if you want to give them a listen sometime, unless you've done so already Mr. iTunes.

I never listened to Betty. I have Meantime somewhere on tape--but it's been years since I've listened.

Bring 'em to the next gathering of alcoholics and I'll give them a listen.
