Making Life Better for All of Us

Who says technology doesn't make the world a better place? Now, thanks to the miracles of modern technology, we'll have better, cleaner, thinner sliced cheese. I feel all tingly inside.

Traditional cheese processing has a number of shortcomings, he said.

Large cutting machines require considerable care to keep cheese from becoming contaminated by bacteria. And it's impossible to slice cheese very thin because it tears or sticks to the cutting blade.

But now Li, working with engineering graduate student Hongseok Choi, has adapted the same kind of laser used for eye surgery to slice Wisconsin's most famed food product.

That's nice.

Read the story.

Sounds like you've been following Slashdot...

It's true. I have Slashdot on my RSS aggregator now and that one caught my eye. I was just really hoping to see a picture of the thing.

I need to get one of those aggregators. What do you reccomend? (I know that this is off-topic, but what other comments do you expect to get about a laser cheese cutter?)

On the Mac, the one I like most is NetNewsWire Lite. I don't know if there's a PC version--I haven't looked since the Gateway died a horrible death. NetNewsWire is about the easiest to add feeds to that I've found and the interface is clean and easy. If there is a PC version, I suggest getting that one.

On the laptop (XP) I'm using one irregularly that's okay. I think it's called "Wild Grape" or something like that. I'll check when I get home.

'"It smelled really bad," he said.' I bet it did.
