iPod: Good News/Bad News

The good news, that broke a few days ago, is that Hewlett-Packard will be distributing their own version of the iPod in a relationship with Apple. The bad news is that, contrary to all the noise, the HP branded iPod won't support the WMA format for music.

Contrary to reports, Hewlett-Packard will not be supporting Microsoft's Windows Media Audio format in its forthcoming HP-branded iPod.

According to Paul Thurrot's WinInfo newsletter, HP is working with Apple to add support for WMA to the iPod. Thurrot's report was widely circulated online on Monday.

I don't bother with WMA format, even on the PCs that I use, preferring MP3. Fact is, though, a lot of people do use that format, and it would have been nice to see Apple improving the iPod by expanding its versatility.

A minor disappointment in otherwise good news.
