Libya's Desperation

It was a sign of how desperate Muammar Gaddafi is that he has recently made such sweeping changes in Libya's illegal weapons programs. What's being reported today, though, shows that the desperation runs even deeper than most of us had imagined.

Mr Sneh [Libyan labor legislator] confirmed on Wednesday that he and another Israeli legislator had met the Libyan leader's son on the sidelines of an academic conference last August.

Mr Gaddafi's son - Saif al-Islam - is considered a likely successor to the Libyan leader.

While the BBC article that I'm referencing quotes an unnamed Israeli government source as indicating that Sharon's government isn't taking the diplomatic overtures seriously, even the discussion of relations is a sign of how far Gaddafi may be willing to go to have economic sanctions against his country lifted.

Read the story.
