Speaking of Apple...

Okay, this is another gadget that increases the cool factor of iPods: a car stereo that integrates with your iPod.

Once you connect your iPod to the stereo with a single cable, you can operate it with the receiver's buttons and view playlists, album, artist, and songs on the unit's display. The solution simultaneously charges the iPod's battery so that it's ready to go when you reach your destination.

I wonder how many accidents this will cause. Imagine, if you will, driving along at 80 miles and hour and trying to find that certain song on that certain album by that certain artist buried somewhere on that 40 gig hard drive.

You know I want it.

That's cool, but you need to replace your car stereo to get it. What's even cooler is the $35 attachment (Griffin iTrip) that you can already get for your iPod that will transmit it to your car stereo over any FM band that you choose. That, my friend, is one of the best reasons to buy an iPod!

That is cool (and you can get it for some of the other, cheaper hard drive based MP3 players), but what I like about the Alpine solution is the idea of using the stereo's controls instead of the iPod's controls.

And, of course, there's the fact that my car stereo sucks and is well worth replacing. So, lessee, what I need is now a new G5, a new 40 gig iPod, and a new stereo so that I can listen to my music in style.

I need another job.

That is a truth that has been self-evident for a very long time...
