On Gloating

Shawn McComber's review of Zel Miller's book, A National Party No More seems pretty spot on. I'm reading the book now and will have more comments when I've finished it; suffice it to say, though, that I think Shawn is more or less correct.

The really interesting thing to me, though, is that he closes his review with something that ties into my Losing an Election post from yesterday.

The target audience for A National Party No More is a Republican establishment so buoyed by recent victories they want to believe the entire world has been converted. And it is fun to gloat. But if there is anything that can undo these gains it will be a sense in the public that conservatives believe their victory to be a matter of inevitability.

That definitely fits nicely into the overall conversation.

Read the rest of the review.
