If Only...

If only Arafat could be trusted, these words might mean something.

"The time has come between us and you Israelis ... to get out of this cycle of destructive war," Arafat said.

If only Arafat hadn't said this in 1997...

"We the PLO will concentrate all our efforts on splitting Israel psychologically into two camps. Within five years we will have six to seven million Arabs living on the West Bank and in Jerusalem. The PLO plans to eliminate the State of Israel and establish a purely Palestinian State. We will make life unbearable for Jews by psychological warfare and population explosion; Jews won't want to live among Arabs."

...then this, from Foxnews, might be credible.

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat called for an end to three years of violence, saying Wednesday that Israel had a right to live in peace, and his prime minister urged an immediate and comprehensive cease-fire.

If only Arafat didn't believe this...

"Our law is a Jordanian law that we inherited, which applies to both the West Bank and Gaza, and sets the death penalty for those who sell land to Israelis. It is our right to defend our land."

...then maybe we could, in good conscience, negotiate with the man.

But, "if only" is just a stupid, suicidal game.

Read the Foxnews story.

It's hard to fathom why the Israelis don't just kill that old terrorist. Whatever is waiting to take his place must be unspeakably horrible.

Limbaugh is basically right on this issue. The fighting will never end until there is victory. And that requires fighting a war against the Palestinians, one that the West does not currently have the stomach to fight.
