resurrectionsongNovember 07, 2003Twice WiltedI was flipping through my collection of CDs last night, looking for songs I hadn't heard in a while. I came across some really cool stuff from the early 90's that managed to remind me that I'm slowly creeping towards "getting older." Damn. Okay, but that's beside the point. Two of them that really stuck out in my mind were Twice Wilted's Ice Hex Fix and Sympathy F's self-titled CD. What great music. The first time I saw Twice Wilted, a Denver indie band that broke up years ago, it was with a group of friends at Seven South. They were the kind of band who lit incense on the stage before they went up, if that means anything to you. But the music was brilliant and the people I was with were a lot of fun. In fact, it was the company that gives me such a good feeling about the music. I saw the band again a few times--once with my ex-sister-in-law, in fact--and always enjoyed them. The feeling wasn't quite the same, though, and soon they had passed from the Denver music scene entirely. The lead singer later formed another band here called Tarmints, but I'm fairly sure that they're gone, too. It's seeming like a long time ago, now, which is just an intriguing way of noticing just how much time has passed between now and then. Listen to "Square" by Twice Wilted. I have never seen them, I live in Seattle with my husband and 2 children, he is one of the 2 guitar players in Twice Wilted. Too bad they broke up but is had to happen eventually... From what I remember of those alcohol-and-angst-fueled years past, two of my favorite bands ever (not just local) were Sympathy F and Twice Wilted. Stumbled across your site searching out "where have they gone" bits on Sympathy F. (I still see bits on Liz in local media, with her ongoing and well-received efforts in theater and music, and I saw Doug S a year or so ago and had a good chat, including a bit about about mutual friends from further back, Foxton/Private Life, whose studio album Doug helped engineer. Somewhere, I still have recordings I made of Foxton before their album and unfortunate name-change. Wee.). I also recently ran into Kurt from Wilted, when he did a bang-up job on the soundboard for my band Robot Mandala. (The best live sound we've had yet! Many many thanks, Kurt!) I haven't seen the Tarmints, but I can only imagine the kick-ass-ness thereof. Someday I hope to track down and acquire recordings of more of the many area bands of yesteryear that had so much impact on me. Posted by: whY - a name, not a question at February 10, 2004 08:23 PMWhat a world the internet makes...I was at the same concert at Seven South all those years ago, and it was indeed a great experience. They still stick in my head as the definition of 'local band': friendly, energetic, honest. Nice to hear stories from times before. Posted by: Rick at March 2, 2004 07:53 AMI got a TW cassette (via a friend who studied in the united states) back in 90/91. It eventually wore out cause I played it so much. Would love to get another copy of whatever it was - I think it was called 'livid neptune static'. Had a photo of powerlines or something on the cover. Julien - Melbourne, Australia. Posted by: Julien at March 27, 2004 05:37 AMJust stumbled across this site and the memories...believe it or not I still have that Twice Wilted tape and have transfered it to mp3 format. If any of you read this- email me and I'll send the ol' somgs your way---but only if you promise to check out the Tarmints too (link above). They're great - and only getting better...I saw the Tarmints at 7 South (now the hi-dive) this past weekend (I too was flashing back to the Twice Wilted show as the stage looks excatly the same) and they covered Search and Destroy by Iggy & the Stooges. Ahhh... sweet reminiscence. I am out here in L.A. now and was just listening to ICE HEX FIX. Kind Regards! Just an update about Twice Wilted...They were the mainstay of the 90's in Denver..they were represented by Richard Paradis, who took them across the country on tours many times...lets not also forget about the other bands at this time..The Fluid,40th Day, Sympathy F and the rocking Rock Tots!!! - All played at 7th South!!!
