Odd Drug Offense Sentencing

Two somewhat celebrity drug-related stories have been occupying my attention lately. Of course, I call it drug-related, but only one of the offenses actually involves drugs. The other involves drug paraphernalia (we could say "drug and tobacco", but that's somewhat disingenuous: we know the purpose of the paraphernalia, and it has nothing to do with tobacco).

Tommy Chong goes to jail for up to nine months for selling bongs and pipes.

Scott Wetland goes to a "live-in detox program followed by six months in a residential drug rehab center" for "crashing into a parked car...and leaving the scene of an accident" while driving under the influence of drugs.
