Scott Weiland, Talented Fool

I was never a big Stone Temple Pilots fan; I thought the music was derivative and a little boring. Scott Weiland's solo CD, though, showed some promise, and I looked forward to seeing what he could do when he broke out of the musical template that he seemed to work from with STP.

Now, he just seems like another star who can't keep his need for drugs under control no matter how many times he's caught--and if you're having visions of Robert Downey, Jr, in your head, then you're right in line with me.

Embattled Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland has once again gotten himself into legal trouble. The artist was arrested early Monday morning (Oct. 27) in Hollywood after a traffic collision and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and misdemeanor hit-and-run.
[...]
In August, Weiland was sentenced to three years probation for two felony drug possession charges stemming from a May 17 arrest during a traffic stop. Similar drug charges sent the artist to prison in 1999, after he repeatedly violated his probation and failed to complete a rehab program.

Fool. It's sad to see someone throw away their opportunities and talent, especially for something as fleeting as their next high.

Read the story.

I thought he was dead. Who was that derivative, Pearl Jam-sounding singer from Seattle who died of an overdose?

The last Seattle-type that died was Layne Staley. Is that who you're thinking?

No effing way is Layne Staley either "derivative" or "Pearl Jam-sounding."

Layne Staley is dead??? Man, I'm out of it...

SJ, I would agree--I'm just trying to think of who he's thinking of, and that's the best I could come up with.

Nathan, sorry to break the news to you. He died a little while back of a drug overdose. Another waste of life and talent.

I guess it was Staley. I'm not near my computer now to look it up.
