resurrectionsongOctober 22, 2003Annoying Freakin' PC...So, the night that I spent re-installing Windows ME on my home computer ended up being useless. Let me tell you about the problem: the computer won't start on its first start-up. It will hang either on the WinME screen or on the little blinky cursor that comes before ME really and truly starts up. On second start-up, it's a fifty-fifty proposition. Half of the time it will boot, half of the time it won't. On the third start-up, it pretty much always works. I've run all the utilities to check my motherboard, processor, hard drive, memory, video card, and sound card. I've run Scandisk. I've defragged. I decided, that it must be something wrong with the OS, so I re-installed from scratch. It's still doing the same damned thing. I'm officially confused on the subject and am not entirely sure what to do to fix the problem. Suggestions? Posted by zombyboy at October 22, 2003 02:43 PM | TrackBackComments
Buy a Mac. Oh, wait, you already have a Mac. Damn! I've got nothin'... Posted by: StumpJumper at October 22, 2003 02:55 PMI'm actually thinking about setting up the Mac and glaring regularly at the PC. I haven't finished paying the damned thing off yet, though, so I have a major problem with abandoning it at this point. Freakin' thing. I wish I knew what the problem was--I'd fix it and be happy. Posted by: zombyboy at October 22, 2003 02:59 PMI'll see what I can find, Z, but if you have a chance, start searching these archives by key words: (http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=24hoursupport.helpdesk) Every time I have a PC question, I go to this nOOzFrOOp. They are the best bunch, ever. If you can't find it -- post your question there. Honest, someone will help you quickly. Try to be as detailed as you can regarding your hardware, though. I'll let you know if I find anything that sounds remotely close. Okay? Posted by: margi at October 22, 2003 04:59 PMYanno what? I closed that post and realized: Have you checked your power supply? If I think of anything else, I'll be back. Obviously. Heh. Posted by: margi at October 22, 2003 05:00 PMhave you done a system restore lately? I had problems with ME a while back and I ended up having to upgrade to XP just to get the computer to work. the problem was that I often had to do a system restore to fix things and I didn't know that every time i did the restore i needed to un-install my anti-virus program...this eventually caused the computer to not boot up anymore. Posted by: ALeC at October 23, 2003 02:17 PMI tried a re-install of the operating system, and still had the same issue. A friend at work says I need to re-format the hard drive before a re-install. I might have to upgrade just to get the problem taken care of, too. Damned, evil ME. Posted by: zombyboy at October 23, 2003 02:26 PMPost a comment
