resurrectionsongSeptember 17, 2003Academic Bill of RightsWalter tackles the proposed Academic Bill of Rights here in Colorado. I have to admit to ignoring this issue, even though it is, at some level, a coservative cause. Thing is, since it establishes no quotas (and such quotas would be un-enforcable), I think it's just a useless, feel-good piece of legislation that everyone will feel free to ignore. It's a toothless call for more conservative minds in higher education--but, without establishing how that would happen, this is as meaningful as your typical UN resolution. Even worse, though, would be an attempt to establish a quota. Perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps there's more to it than that. All in all, I can't see anything particularly useful in it--and I certainly can't see why the left is getting so terribly uptight about it.
