resurrectionsongSeptember 17, 2003Getting the InstalancheKevin (no, thatKevin) has some advice to help people get their very own Instalanches. I'd like to throw another rule into the mix: Don't have stupid pseudonyms like Zombyboy. You'll just look stupid. The end. Posted by zombyboy at September 17, 2003 11:30 AM | TrackBackComments
I deleted the line from the post right before I published that mentioned most Instalanchers used full names. I think you made the point better. Posted by: Kevin at September 17, 2003 11:34 AMYeah. Feel free to mock me openly. Posted by: zombyboy at September 17, 2003 11:44 AMSomeone will have to explain the appeal of InstaPundit to me some day. Honestly, I don't find his site all that useful. I'd call it more of a portal than a blog. But, hey, that's just me. Posted by: StumpJumper at September 17, 2003 02:14 PMMore than anything, he points to a lot of interesting thoughts that I wouldn't otherwise find. Posted by: zombyboy at September 17, 2003 02:17 PMI don't know. Combustible Boy got a Lilekslanche once. I use Instapundit precisely as a portal, SJ. "Heh", "Indeed", and "Exactly" aren't punditry to me. Glenn is fed a lot of stuff, and he can pick and post from it pretty easily. Therefore it does provide great content value. Posted by: Velociman at September 17, 2003 03:10 PMHe's fed a tremendous amount of information--I wonder if he has someone screen emails for him? I've been lucky enough to have one full blown link and one "update" link. I figure that's a lot of eyes that otherwise would not have read the posts, and that makes me happy. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Lileks hasn't yet noticed this here blog. Yeah, pretty damned positive, actually. Posted by: zombyboy at September 17, 2003 03:20 PMI'd like to see the stats as far as whether or not many readers who visit via an instalanche actually continue on as regular readers. I have a feeling that by and large, they don't. Posted by: Jo at September 17, 2003 03:51 PMIn general, I know that they don't. With both of the times I was linked, I generally saw the installanche followed by a small rise in general readership. This time was a huge flood of hits over two days, and then a bump of maybe about 20 visits a day. The difficult thing to figure from that, though, is just how much of that is natural growth and how much is people who decided they wanted to read me regularly. Probably not too many new regular readers could really be attributed to the Instapundit link. Posted by: zombyboy at September 17, 2003 03:56 PMI rather like the name Zombyboy. Imagine being lost amongst all those others with your real name. I think that if Instapundit ever linked to my little blog that doesn't even have 800 hits yet I would probably scream like a school girl and then pass out. Jo, The traffic might peter out, but remember this famous line from a movie I should not know this much about: "I would rather have thirty minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special." Patrick has a point: my real name would certainly get lost in the crowd. It just screams, "Who?" Posted by: zombyboy at September 17, 2003 10:07 PMHey, I can think of a worse pseudonym than "Zombyboy." Posted by: Xrlq at September 17, 2003 11:46 PMPatrick, my readers are special! In their own very special way. ;) Post a comment
