McQueary's Revenge

Bart McQueary, famously vile Christian, has left us another message over the weekend. This is the first time in 1848 comments that I've ever considered editing or deleting someone else's work. It's also the first time that I've even come close to considering banning someone.

A taste of the message:

You miserable, hellbound, bathouse wallowing, anal copulating fags better listen up and realize that in your current condition you are hated by God. You are Christ's goats. In the end he will look each one of you in the face, laugh and mock at you then cast you into Hell.

How remarkably wrong can one man be?

Here's the thing, though. I sort of invited this on myself by criticizing his site and linking to him. I opened up a conversation that is not winnable; nothing that is said to him could possibly change his warped mind. Nothing that is pointed to in the Bible can't be refuted or twisted by his sick thoughts.

And, yet, by opening the conversation, I invited him into my blog.

I'm going to allow the comment to stand. I'm not going to ban him. I want to, though, desperately. Do you want to know why?

Here's the reason: I'm a Christian. I believe in God. I believe in the Bible. I believe in Heaven and Hell. Some of the things that I believe are far outside the Baptist orthodoxy in which I was raised; some of it would be considered nothing short of heretical from my more conservative friends.

But I am a Christian.

When I see Hollywood movies that have Christians in them, those believers are usually portrayed as ignorant, out-of-touch, homophobes who are opposed to anything that might possibly be fun. And when I see those portrayals, I want to scream at the screen, "Can't you step past those stereotypes? Can't you move past all that crap and see Christians for what they really are--the diversity of beliefs and diversity of thought?"

Then a guy like Bart McQueary comes along and makes the Hollywood caricature look tame. Makes the caricature look reasonable by comparison. And, for so many people, taints the idea of what Christianity is and could be.

Bart McQueary is an embarrassment that I take very personally. I want to delete his comment (hell, I want to delete his site), and tell each and every one of you that, no, this is not the face of Christianity. I don't want you to think of McQueary's wild, arrogant ramblings when you think of Christians.

But--and this is the hard part for me to accept--McQueary is one of the faces of Christianity. A face that most of the rest of us aren't proud to claim. Remember, though, that there are many sides, good and bad, to Christianity. Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr, is a face of my faith. So is Mother Theresa. And CS Lewis, George Washington Carver, and Isaac Newton. So is Nathan and so is Amy and so is SJ and so am I.

Fear of God is a good thing, and Bart's not really showing that.

You know who he reminds me of, a little bit?

Mark Morford ... especially Morford's Aug. 1 column. The same certainties, the same intolerance, the same need to insist the God and the universe back the writer's own worldview.

I get pissed off like everyone else, and in flashes of anger sometimes think large portions of humanity and a few choice individuals should be consigned to Hell. Until I really think about hell ... and then there isn't a person on earth whose hand I would force to remain in a pot of boiling water for a second, more or less into an eternal pot.

I don't know God's plans and I'm not calling God out on the hell thing, but I fear for someone like Bart.

Morford is just as much of a zealot as McQueary--just in a very different arena.

Posted by: zombyboy at August 18, 2003 03:53 PM

Wow. I'm awed and humbled to be considered mentioned in the same company as CS Lewis.

I'll have to post some more theology soon...

One very, very obvious thing: He really thinks Jesus will laugh and mock the goats? I don't pretend to know the mind of God, but I've been led to believe that he will grieve for every soul that rejects Him.

Posted by: nathan at August 18, 2003 04:00 PM

Wait, wait, wait...you aren't shocked and awed to be mentioned in the same breath as me?

Hmmph.

Joking aside, that's one of the things that gets me most about McQueary. I don't understand how he could say that about God, either. I'm not an analyst, I don't even play one on TV, but that boy just ain't right. There is something very seriously wrong with his mind, and he could do with a bit of professional help.

Posted by: zombyboy at August 18, 2003 04:05 PM

...shocked and despondent, maybe.

Posted by: nathan at August 18, 2003 04:14 PM

You love me and you know it...although you might still be a little cranky about that whole "Kevin" thing.

Posted by: zombyboy at August 18, 2003 04:15 PM

I was wondering why I was Kevin for more than 24 hours...
It's nice to know that I'm an honorary Kevin, but someone should notify Kevin at Wizbangblog that I'm an honorary Kevin and should be included on his Kevinwatch list.

Posted by: nathan at August 18, 2003 04:40 PM

I'm surprised I haven't heard from him yet.

Posted by: Vigilante13 at August 18, 2003 08:16 PM

Matt. 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world

As I said, you are as the goats.

Proverbs 1:26 - I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh

Now what kind of miserable Christian are you if you've never preached about God laughing at these doomed sinners as he casts them into Hell?

You want to tell me that God has never hated anyone and God doesn't hate?

Malachi 1:3 - And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.

He hated Esau and he was far more righteous than the average fag/dyke or whore/whoremonger. So don't shake your heads at me. If you spent more time reading what God says about God than listening to what Kevin Smith says about God then you would be in better shape.

Then you want to tell me that God weeps over these hell bound sinners. Poor God! Your view of God is that of a jilted lover that just wants to be loved. Ergo, he must have the worst job in the world. Again I say, poor God.

No! This is how God feels about those that spit in his face:

Jeremiah 11:14 - Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.

In other words... HE DOESN'T CARE! You get what you deserved. And when you people stand before God on the Judgment Day you won't be able to say you didn't know. Bart told you!

Posted by: Bart McQueary at August 19, 2003 12:43 AM

And I used to think I had a problem with sinful pride. Bart's pride humbles me. Oops, but now I'm proud of being humbled.

Dang.

Posted by: McGehee at August 19, 2003 06:34 AM

Wow. Bart's becoming a regular reader of resurrectionsong.com. Maybe, somewhere deep inside he still wants to be loved? Maybe he still wants people to stop laughing at him.

Poor little bastard.

Posted by: zombyboy at August 19, 2003 06:45 AM

And, apparently, Bart, I'm quite the miserable Christian. But if being a good Christian means being a fool like you, then I'm quite happy where I'm at.

Thank you for coming by.

Posted by: zombyboy at August 19, 2003 06:48 AM

I think Bart's a kidder. His Web site is not serious. You had me for a minute there, Bart. But look at his name. McQueary. And he rails against gays? Hmm...I think I've been had.

Posted by: IB Bill at August 19, 2003 07:41 AM

No zb, my job is to preach the gospel where it needs to be preached at. When you doubted that God hates or God laughs before he casts people into Hell, I have shown you where the Bible says just that.

And what do you do? Rather than address the facts that have been put before you, you decide to goof on someone's name. You completly ignore the Bible scripture you have been provided with.

Why?

Isaiah 66:4 - I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.

2 Thessalonians 2:11 - And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie

God is sending you strong delusion so that you will believe a lie. He is done with you. He has given up on you and waits for the day to cast you into Hell. There you will be tormented by the angels and in the prescense of Jesus Christ. He will laugh and mock you as you cry out for mercy!

Amen and amen!

IB,

No, he's for real. In all his twisted sickness.

Bart,

IB said that, and I actually thought the same the first time I saw your site. Of course, now that you somehow think God is actively misleading me, I'm even more amazed at your vicious confusion.

I will say a prayer for you, though. I pray that God lifts this confusion from your eyes, I pray that God can somehow pull you from this path you've set yourself on. I hope that God forgives you, and under the shattering weight of his forgiveness you are reborn as a humble man--a man who seeks to address the wrongs you have done to so many who did not deserve your spite.

You are a cruel man. I pray for you.

"In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins" (I John 4:9-10)

Bart, don't come here any more, and don't spread your sickness on my site. Ours is a God of love--not this monster you make Him out to be. Even a man such as you can be forgiven.

Bart,
It is very easy to pull out selected verses of the Bible out of context, and end up with a distorted view of God's message to us. You obviously need a lesson in HOW to read the Bible. For instance, you should read chapters in full, follow chain references to see how specific issues are dealt with throughout the whole Bible, and remember that the Bible abounds with literary references. Like when God says the Kingdom of God is like yeast in dough, does that mean you will be changed to a unicellular organism and baked into bread? Of course not!
For instance, you used Proverbs as "proof" that God will laugh and mock sinners. Well, Proverbs also says that if you raise up a child in the way in which he should go, he will not depart from the path. Well, I can think of plenty of people who do depart from the path. Does that mean God is a liar? No! It means that proverbs are general guidelines about how to live, not doctrine.
I notice you also quote the Old Testament alot. Did you realize that the Old Testament is the Law? We are called to preach the Gospel of Christ, not the Law, because as Paul teaches us in Romans, the Law is condemnation, the Law is death. Jesus tells Peter that those who live by the sword shall die by the sword, so if you interact with sinners by preaching the Law and condemnation, you will be judged by the Law, and no man can gain righteousness by the Law.
You derided the idea of Jesus sorrow for the lost souls, as if He might be crying over a jilted lover. But since the Body of the Church is being prepared like a Bride for Jesus as the Groom, perhaps a jilted lover is an apt analogy? But if you really want to understand why Jesus will weep over the lost, look no further than the parable of the lost sheep, in which Jesus, the Good Shepherd, leaves the 99 to search high and low for the one who was lost, never stopping until the lost is found. And there will be greater rejoicing in heaven over the one that was lost and then found than the 99 who never strayed.
In any case, we are God's children, and if you've ever had children, you would know that if your children reject and curse you, you feel sadness for their contempt of those who love them, you don't mock and laugh at the children whom you love.
Go back and read some more, consider, pray, and we will pray for you.

Very nicely said, Nathan...

Posted by: zombyboy at August 19, 2003 04:34 PM

When the Spirit moves, you can't help but speak... Let them that have ears to hear, listen.

Posted by: nathan at August 19, 2003 04:47 PM

I can't believe I forgot this one, too:
If you want to know what Jesus thinks of those who reject him, let's go see what he actually says:
Matthew 23:37
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered they children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
(King James Version).
Wow. Not one hint of laughing or mocking!

Oh Bart I'm jealous. zombyboy is getting all the attention. I want to be condemned too at my site. Here's the link http://the-blacklist.blog-city.com/read/189740.htm

I've officially designated it as a hate site.

Posted by: Vigilante13 at August 23, 2003 03:37 AM

I have never felt so sorry for anybody in my whole life. I am a Greek Orthodox Christian, and in my Church we are taught to not judge anyone else's sins because we all have our sins to deal with. May God have mercy on this poor man's soul and may he see the Light of Christ before he dies and it's too late. You really have to hate yourself to hate someone else -- people that you don't even know and who will never know you -- that strongly. Bart, if you ever see this, I feel sorry for you. I pity you and pray for you. May God have mercy on you and may you turn to Him to pull you out of this spiral of self-loathing that has allowed you to listen to all of Satan's lies; these lies that have allowed you fester in hatred.

I am not religious, nor will I ever be, but I like to think of have some respect for humanity. I have nothing but ill wishes for Bart. He has poured a ton of salt into a lot of open wounds, and by doing so, will surely suffer. Check out my buddy's full gospel memorial sometime. One month gone, by murder, no less, and this jackass tears into him, his family, and is, I believe, the sole force behind many of the threats the family's been receiving. If there is a Hell, I know that's where he'll be..probably with me, but at least I can keep an eye on him. He'll get his, just wait.
