resurrectionsongJuly 08, 2003Because That's What You Do...According to Reuters, Savage is apologizing for the comments that led to his firing from MSNBC. In reading the remarks, one can hardly believe that he is anywhere near sincere. Instead, you get the feeling that his image coach pulled him aside and said, "Hey, Mike, this is America. Just try to apologize without really admitting guilt. They'll let you off the hook, don't you worry." I'm not feeling that generous. "If my comments brought pain to anyone I certainly did not intend for this to happen and apologize for any such reaction," Savage said on his Web site, (http://www.michaelsavage.com) When someone says "Oh, you're one of the sodomites! You should only get AIDS and die, you pig," I have a hard time believing that it was "inadvertent." That's okay, because he "certainly did not intend for this to happen." Oddly, gays that do listen are probably only tuning in for the same reason I read Molly Ivins. It confirms our absolute worst suspicions about our political opposites. In this case, gays can condemn conservatives on the basis of what this prick said instead of realizing that the vast majority of the GOP can no longer be characterized as the homophobic mass that they imagine. Savage is a judgmental ass. He casts reasonable, tolerant conservatives in a horrible light. He is the left's caricature of the right--a smug prig who demands absolute conformity with his dictates. Still, he can complain that it was a private conversation and misdirect by claiming that it was inadvertent, but it really doesn't matter. We know who he is, and he is not the face of the GOP. Read the Reuters story. Comments
Yeah, I like that part about "inadvertent" too. What it means is, he's not apologizing for any intentional insults, only the ones he made without knowing he was making them -- and what he's most sorry for was that he didn't have the opportunity to intend those too. This bird devoted a little too much attention to the study of Bill Clinton, IMHO. Posted by: McGehee at July 8, 2003 06:58 PMAmen to that, bother McGehee. Posted by: zombyboy at July 8, 2003 10:24 PMHeheh. I R sorry about that little mishap. Posted by: zombyboy at July 9, 2003 08:29 AMSavage is an embarrassment to the right and to reasonable conservatives. He's one of the few radio/TV people that make me uncomfortable as I'm listening. I caught some of his radio show on Monday and ZombyBoy is right on the money. He was complaining about a "production conspiracy" at MSNBC that's tried to get his show cancelled from the beginning. He was not apologetic on his radio show and made many analogies to WWII Germany when groups were eliminated as the general public stood by in silence. Posted by: Opinion Engine at July 9, 2003 11:29 AMThe Mysterious Opinion Engine strikes again... Posted by: zombyboy at July 9, 2003 12:49 PMI never liked Michael Savage. He's no Limbaugh.
