Where Did I Leave that Firing Squad?

Regular readers might know that I'm opposed to the death penalty (and if you really want to know why, I'll be happy to tell you), but I'm having a hard time containing my joy at the following news from CNN:

The only state that dispatches condemned inmates by firing squad is assembling gunmen for back-to-back executions next month.

The nation's last execution by firing squad was in 1996.

Exercising their right under Utah law, a serial killer, Roberto Arguelles, and Troy Michael Kell, a white supremacist who stabbed a fellow inmate to death, have chosen the firing squad over lethal injection and are set to die at 12:01 a.m. on June 27 and 28, respectively.

Firstly, what a way to choose to die. I have to admit to admiring them for making this choice on their own--it would have been so much easier to just taken the lethal injection. Secondly, it sounds like it couldn't happen to a nicer couple of guys. The only down side is that CNN also reports that Kell will likely be filing an appeal that will stop his execution.

Damn.

Did that sound just a little too ghoulish?
