resurrectionsongMay 22, 2003Where Did I Leave that Firing Squad?Regular readers might know that I'm opposed to the death penalty (and if you really want to know why, I'll be happy to tell you), but I'm having a hard time containing my joy at the following news from CNN: The only state that dispatches condemned inmates by firing squad is assembling gunmen for back-to-back executions next month. Firstly, what a way to choose to die. I have to admit to admiring them for making this choice on their own--it would have been so much easier to just taken the lethal injection. Secondly, it sounds like it couldn't happen to a nicer couple of guys. The only down side is that CNN also reports that Kell will likely be filing an appeal that will stop his execution. Damn. Did that sound just a little too ghoulish? Posted by zombyboy at May 22, 2003 12:00 AM | TrackBackComments
Bah. They should just save some time and have a prison guard pop a cap in their asses. Heheh. Hector makes me look so nice and mild by comparison. Posted by: zombyboy at May 23, 2003 03:54 PMTroy Kell went into the system 17-18 yrs old. Prison breeds hate. The system and society failed him long ago. Read the book "The Ultimate Punishment" by Scott Turow. I caught him on CNN this a.m. Everyone has done something they regret and wanted to take back.... he was just a kid when he was given a 2 life sentences.....I am writing to anyone who will listen regarding this Utah death row inmate. The prison should be proud... they took a young man and made him into a white supremacist, violent hater.... But, what would have happened to you if your fate had been twisted?
